Waving or buzzing – Google’s new Buzz.

So Google has launched “buzz”, which is a social network simulating extension to GMail, if you ask me. You can share photos, videos, status messages – and people can follow your profile, see what you share and comment on it in real time. Apparently. I haven’t found anyone yet to “buzz” with. It’s supposed to [...]

The valuable relationship between SEO and SMM

Something which I am currently thinking about is the relationship between Search Engine Optimization and Social Media Marketing. There surely is a direct relationship, and this short post about SEO and Social Media Marketing mentions it, too: When it comes to social media, millions of links are shared every day on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and [...]

Nice idea for an ordinary product: Inside Google

Coming up for an original idea for a rather ordinary product like the cereal wheetabix isn’t always easy. In this case, it’s a play on the fact that wheetabix as a breakfast gives you energy for the whole day. So they came up with a questions that is interesting for all of us: “What makes [...]

Social Media Counter showing the growing Social Web

A guy named gary has produced a widget which demonstrates in “real time” the explosion of the social web. As you can see below, the rate of new content and interaction on the various social sites and applications is enormous! He writes about it: I quickly built and coded the app based on data culled from [...]

Links & News, 09.11.08

Latest links: The long tail of search is longer than expected. Junglesmash is calling out for user generated ads – the first one is a competition to produce toothpaste ads! Karl long about an apparently dead wrong article about the dying blogosphere in the economist. Obama published a photo set of the night of the [...]

1 trillion unique webpages and information overload

Just a quick note: While read/writeweb writes about information overload and how it has caused a productivity loss of $650 billion, Google boasts about having indexed 1 trillion (1,000,000,000,000) Websites. Add Email, twitter, SMS and possibly even paper producst like books and newspapers, the amount of information available – or battling for our attention – [...]

Vote for marketing memes on the web

I should have known. The chances of having an idea first are really slim. So someone, Alister, to be precise, came up with the idea to block the URL for Marketing Meme first. A URL that could be the meme-tracker of the marketing world, just as techmeme is the meme-tracker of the technology world. Not [...]

Google and Apple and the no compromise for bucks philosophy.

Just the other day I posted this graphic at my german blog: The graphic is from this place here. Just today I found the ‘corresponding article’ about ‘how google and apple dominate‘ whatever field they are moving into. Written by Umair Haque, this article goes into the “no compromise for bucks” philosophy that is at [...]

Don’t fall for any “basic tips of how-to”

I usually try not to write negative about things, because unless it’s constructive criticism for the creator of the content, nobody gains much. But since there is no possibility to comment on things at marketingvox, I will do it here. I am referring to the post with the title “How-to: 9 Basic SEO Tips“. It [...]

A very long list of good internet marketing blog posts

This list here must have been assembled throughout last year. It is a “best of” of internet marketing blog posts compiled by Tamar Weinberg. It’s so long (250+ links apparently), and judging by the link titles, there are so many interesting posts linked to, I am fascinated by it. Go take a look yourself. For [...]

A complete list of web marketing areas

I am impressed with this extensive list of web marketing areas by Jeremiah Owyang. It’s, as he calls it “A Complete List of the Many Forms of Web Marketing for 2008″ and for the moment it does indeed look very complete. This document catalogs the many tools and tactics available for corporate web strategy in [...]

The first Digital Advertising trends for 2008

Just last weekend, when I was buying grocery for my farewell party from Frankfurt, I noticed that supermarkets already stock christmas cookies and bakery – but it’s only beginning of September…It starts earlier every year it seems, doesn’t it? Giles Rhys Jones is also rather early: He already predicts the Digital Advertising Trends for 2008. [...]

Why it could make sense for Amazon to send users away with ads

Read/writeweb has an interesting observation. Apparently Amazon has started to place ads on their site that lead to products in shops on completely different sites. Some ads are contextual, others are not. And Alex asks, why on earth Amazon would do something like that, i.e. sending people out of their shop to go somewhere else? [...]

More on advertising on social networks via widgets

Some more ramblings on advertising on social networks, as I have written about it lately already: Sean Carton also thinks that advertising on social networks won’t work properly using regular ads. His point of why widgets might be the better solution (and I agree): This is why widgets have been getting so much play lately: [...]

Do you remember? Gold rush in 1995

Sean pointed me to an old article that takes us down memory lane. It’s about the gold rush feeling some 12 years ago. The hopes and expectations were as high as today, but the numbers behind “the web” were much smaller. Here is a couple of quotes, plus my own thoughts of what has changed [...]
