A whiteboard explanation of the financial crisis

It’s been a long time since my economics studies, and the way this is explained is easily understandable.

New Opportunities in Hamburg!

Some might have already seen the signs/messages on facebook and twitter. I am moving. Both job and city, which is really exciting for me!
I have been given a good offer in my hometown Hamburg, so I finally, finally get to move back to Hamburg!
I will let you know more of the details later. But for [...]

The future of Magazines

PSFK writes about the future of magazines, mainly about 4 points that I agree with:
1. Not many people seem interested in reading long-form journalism (The New Yorker, NYT Magazine, etc) in front of their screens.
2. Magazines are easily portable for a plane ride, or the commute home. Also, they can be a good weekend digest [...]

Happy 2nd Birthday

It’s this blogs 2nd Birthday today. Yes, Web Jungle is two years old. I am rather excited about this, as it doesn’t appear to me as if I have been working&writing on blogs for so long. I can still remember having started on the old blogger.com space: http://jungleweb.blogspot.com/
Then, when I noticed I would indeed continue [...]

Back to December

Some might have seen it already: I had some database problems over the last couple of hours. This was due to the fact that during some maintenance work the databases got lost (don’t ask!).
Unfortunately, my brothers and I were moving to a new, much better server over the last few months. This blog was already [...]

The Bloglines Plumber

Nice one, made me smile!
This image appeared this evening, because obviously Bloglines is going through some maintenance work.

I have seen a lot worse and more infuriating “under construction”-messages!

Back on the Blog.

After nearly a month of silence for which I can blame nothing but laziness, I am back on the blog.
In the meantime, my personal systems admin (my brother) has migrated all my webstuff on to a completely new server, I have upgraded to WP 2.0.5. and installed new plugins, I had a week of vacation [...]

First reviews of the Long Tail Book

There is a rather good and interesting review of the book “The Long Tail” by the The New Yorker. I just ordered a copy of that book today. Even though I feel I have read so much about the book online in blogs and reviews, that I don’t see how the original print edition can [...]

Strategy as the new commodity

Umair hast an interesting Post about how strategy is in danger of becoming the new commodity (in his opinion), and the fact that creativity will be the next thing to add true value:
In a world where strategy is a commodity, creativity becomes the vital factor from which value flows. When everyone can think strategically about [...]

German Chancellorette has her own Video-Podcast

Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, has a video-podcast since today. Her first vidcast was FIFA Worldcup message, no surprise.

Now that has got to be a first. Or is there any other country whose Nr. 1 politician has a video-podcast?

The first time in a long time, that I actually really appreciate something my government [...]

The video insiders guide to neighborhoods across the world

Well, the title is a little overpromising. Sofar, TurnHere.com only covers parts of the USA. But nevertheless, the idea is nice. and some of the films are really made will with a lot of effort by all the individuals. Just like this one here:

New York private eye Dempster Leech weaves a tale of the restaurants, [...]

Culture and transformation

This book could be interesting: Transformation. A forthcoming book by Grant McCracken, who now, writes a little about his book:
This book argues that there’s a new cultural regime, one that is, I believe, changing how we define the individual, the self, our culture and our economy.
He jumps right into the discussion about [...]

The Long Tail and an Interview.

psfk has a short interview of Chris Anderson, author of “The Long Tail” – a book which I am definitely goint to get.
Somehow I get the feeling that this is already part of Chris’ promotion tour. Not that I blame him, in fact, I hope he will have a very good promotional campaign around [...]

Networks, Power and Money.

In April, ABC announced that some of their prime time shows will be available online the day after they first aired. Not for free, of course, they contain ads that you cannot skip. (This reminds me of the discussion that arose when bloggers found out that Philips is filing a patent for devices that won’t [...]
