So Google has launched “buzz”, which is a social network simulating extension to GMail, if you ask me. You can share photos, videos, status messages – and people can follow your profile, see what you share and comment on it in real time. Apparently. I haven’t found anyone yet to “buzz” with.
It’s supposed to be [...]

A guy named gary has produced a widget which demonstrates in “real time” the explosion of the social web. As you can see below, the rate of new content and interaction on the various social sites and applications is enormous! He writes about it:
I quickly built and coded the app based on data culled from a [...]

I already blogged about the Fiesta Movement social media activity. Now there are some results, published at adrants:
The program — which included a test-drive program — has elicited the interest of about 50,000 potential buyers, 97% of which don’t drive a Ford at present.
In toto, official Fiesta Movement content has drawn 4.3 million YouTube views, [...]

Quite a few brands are probably carefully eyeing twitter trends with reference to their brand name, incase of negative remarks.
Now there is a study looking into how users are actually talking about brands on twitter. At ReadWriteWeb there is a post stating that tweets about brands are more often about information rather than sentiment.
According to the [...]

Tomorrow is the first remix conference: classic meets online (advertising). To recap what it will be all about:
Fachleute aus dem klassischen Marketing-Umfeld treffen die Aktiven des Web 2.0 für einen professionellen und persönlichen interdisziplinären Austausch.
Feste Konferenzelemente treffen auf die adhoc-Strukturen von BarCamp und Open Space – Beim remix09 mischen sich Unternehmerinnen und Unternehmer, Vorstände, Freelancer [...]

In Germany, bloggers receive presents from time to time, from companies who are probably hoping to stir up conversation about their product.
I have received some presents in the past already, however the most interesting one I got last week: a voucher for a “dinner in the sky” for one person from mydays.de.
Very nice idea, I [...]

Steven Berlin Johnson about old growth media and the future of news (not newspapers). Very interesting points about the bright future of news and the possible role of newspapers/journalists – yes there might still be a future for that industry.
The information architects Japan have launched their fourth version of the web trend map.
Stop buying attention, [...]

This weekend I will visit the barcamp Hamburg 2008 – my first visit to a barcamp ever. Looking very much forward to it, curious to see what kind of session we’ll have. Not sure yet if and what I will present…
The venue is at Otto Versand, a German mail order company that moved heavily into [...]

This is a great list of the 10 Social Media Myths. Quite a few I have heard myself, too:
1. Great Content Always Goes Hot

3. You Can’t Build Quality Relationships Online
4. The More Friends, the Better
5. Social Media Marketing is Easy
6. Social Media Won’t Last
7. Social Media will Replace Traditional Marketing
8. Social [...]

It seems to me like it’s been a long time since the last state of the blogosphere analysis of technorati. I think the last one must have been early 2007.
In the new publication, they offer much more insight than they used to. They conducted a survey amongst bloggers:
For the first time, we surveyed bloggers directly [...]

Vacation time is over. I had a fantastic trip along the west coast of the US and throughout several national parks. You can find lots of photos on my flickr stream.
Anyway, back to the daily routine. The first link I found scanning the 2.000+ unread feeds is leading to
Peter Kim’s list of Social Media practises. [...]

A really extensive list of brands utilizing twitter can be found at this location, called the twitter brand index. A lot more, than I thought, and a lot more US-focused (for obvious reasons) than I would have liked.
This at least solves the question: is twitter already relevant for marketing? It does not yet solve the [...]

Just a quick note: While read/writeweb writes about information overload and how it has caused a productivity loss of $650 billion, Google boasts about having indexed 1 trillion (1,000,000,000,000) Websites. Add Email, twitter, SMS and possibly even paper producst like books and newspapers, the amount of information available – or battling for our attention – [...]

In discussions and social media workshops with clients there is always the one question looming: shall we hop on to existing networks or shall we build our own, new social network? A brand centric or at rather: brand-fan centric social network. Of course it’ll have all the feats like uploading content, connecting with other brand-fans, [...]
